First Chapter & Giveaway: Summer of Scandal by Syrie James

Summer may be fading away, at least here in the northern hemisphere, but Avon Impulse is sneaking in some more summer romance in the form of the recently released Summer of Scandal by Syrie James! Get started with chapter 1 down below to see if this historical romance is up your street, plus enter to win a paperback copy of Runaway Heiress, the first book in the series! About the book Chapter 1 Bolton, Cornwall, England June 21, 1889 The brisk wind bit Madeleine Atherton’s cheeks as she stepped down from the train. Cornwall might be known for its temperate climate, but it felt more like November than June. At least the rain had stopped—for the moment. The rural station at Bolton was much smaller than Madeleine had remembered. Just a redbrick building that resembled a cottage, with a single wooden bench facing the tracks. The platform was empty. Beyond the station […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: A Rose in the Highlands by Heather McCollum

Runaway Englishwoman meets Highland chief in A Rose in the Highlands by Heather McCollum, the first in her new Highland Roses School series. To get you excited, I’ve got a wee excerpt – the couple’s less than friendly first meeting… – and a giveaway for an Amazon gift card! About the book Excerpt Black soot scorched upward around the door, the glass windows burst out, the remaining shards like jagged teeth set in a series of open-mouthed screams. Had the captain mistakenly set her castle ablaze? She flattened her hand to her chest and straightened as James came to the door. “The storm is upon us, milady. Best to get you three inside. I will help ye in while Thomas holds the horses.” “Thomas won’t be able to hold the horses by himself if they spook,” Evelyn said, placing her hand in James’s. “We will be fine.” Had he not seen the soot? Review: A Love Letter From the Girls Who Feel Everything by Brittainy C. Cherry & Kandi Steiner

Review: A Love Letter From the Girls Who Feel Everything by Brittainy C. Cherry & Kandi Steiner

The Faerie Queen’s review As a girl who feels everything, and deeply, I was both scared and excited to read this collection of poetry. I don’t read a lot of poetry, so I can’t say how it compares to other volumes. That being said, I believe poetry, more than other types of writing, is a very subjective experience. That’s not to say other writing isn’t subjective, just that poetry is so completely about feelings and experiences, and is so succinct in expressing these, that it targets your own feelings, and you’ll get the most out of poetry if there’s a connection between what you’re reading and what you’re experiencing. For me, this was very much the case. Like I said, I am very emotional. I’ll own that. I hate that being emotional – and therefore vulnerable – is thrown around like an insult, like you’re weak and out of control […]

Review, First Chapter & Giveaway: Shameless by Cherrie Lynn

Review, First Chapter & Giveaway: Shameless by Cherrie Lynn

The Faerie Queen’s review This is a novella for those of you who want an espresso shot of the brother’s best friend trope. Meredith gets a kick up the backside while on holiday with her brother and friends, including Cam, her brother’s best friend since childhood. After crushing on Cam for a long time, she makes her move, but will Cam be receptive? Because it was so short, I didn’t get too invested in the story. Novellas can be a struggle because there’s not a lot of time to introduce the reader to new characters and develop their relationship. Luckily, for this one, while it did feel a bit rushed at times, I was glad that there was a long history between the two main characters, and that they’d had romantic feelings for each other for a lot of that time. I personally had an issue that others might not. […]

I purred, and the vampire’s heart started pumping. The panther snapped his head toward the vampire lord and bared his teeth in a half-snarl. I hadn’t been mistaken. The panther heard the vampire’s heartbeat as well and he wasn’t thrilled. The vampire stumbled back, clutching his hand over his heart. An instant later, he realized his own reactions and quickly removed his hand from his muscled chest. His expression became unreadable once again. He stepped toward me aggressively and stopped a foot from my cage. I didn’t back down, […]

Review & Giveaway: In Too Deep by Dani Collins

Review & Giveaway: In Too Deep by Dani Collins

The Faerie Queen’s review What I’ve learned about Dani Collins is that she doesn’t do just fluffy romances. Her love stories may feature elite athletes and wealthy people, and they may have their happy endings, but she does not hold back from dealing with real-life issues. If you read the previous book, From the Top, you will have met the couple starring in In Too Deep: playboy charmer and professional snowboarder Trigg and the new manager Wren, aunt and guardian to Trigg’s daughter, Skylar. I couldn’t imagine how Wren managed to “parent” Sky. At 24, I would not have been able to care for a child full-time, let alone a 12-year-old, and she’d been doing this for years by this point. Just knowing that fact made me believe Wren was strong and brave as hell, and she went on to prove that while she wasn’t perfect, she was trying her hardest to do […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: The Elusive Earl by Maddison Michaels

Ever gone on holiday and accidentally become engaged to two men? Yeah…me neither… But that’s what happens to the heroine in The Elusive Earl by Maddison Michaels. Enjoy the prologue below, along with a giveaway for a $25 Amazon gift card! About the book Prologue Mendicino, Calabria, Italy—1833 “It was the most glorious treasure the world had ever seen. Gold, silver, rubies, diamonds bigger than a man’s fist, priceless statues and urns, all carried on the backs of the loyal army of the great Visigoth king: plunders and spoils from King Aleric’s successful sacking of Rome.” Isabella Maria Penderley stopped short with a start, hovering just outside the slightly ajar door of her baby daughter’s bedroom. A calm and melodic voice was recounting the tale of the fabled lost treasure. It was the voice of a man she had dreaded ever hearing again. Slowly, she pushed open the door until the […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: Stealing Tranquility by J.L. Weil

It’s time for a lazy Sunday, and also to celebrate this week’s release of Stealing Tranquility by J.L. Weil! Because you should know by now that this Faerie Queen is a reverse harem junkie. I’ve got an excerpt from you, plus the chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card at the end, so start scrolling! About the book Excerpt Zade moved so he stood just slightly in front of me as if protecting me. Odd. Did I need protection from Jase? “Just making sure our little gem doesn’t get herself in trouble.” Zade cocked his head to the side. “Isn’t that what we agreed on?” The tranquility-breathing dragon stood inside the arched doorway, glaring at Zade with a mean scowl—his eyes so dark they almost appeared black. “Yes, but that doesn’t include you seducing her.” “Since when do you meddle in my extracurricular activities?” Zade challenged him, with an edge […]

Review, First Chapter & Giveaway: Until We’re More by Cindi Madsen

The Faerie Queen’s review Cindi Madsen and I go way back. And by way back, I mean that it was through Anatomy of a Player that I was first introduced to ice hockey romances, which are basically my crack nowadays. That was 2.5 years ago, so not that long ago, but still almost a year before I started this romance blog. You’ll have to go over to my other blog to read my review of that steamy college romance! Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that Cindi is pretty much a sure thing for me. She can deliver great characters with plenty of chemistry, and that proved true for Until We’re More. I devoured this book. I couldn’t stop reading it, except to briefly sleep, and I am massively sleep-deprived today (a Saturday!) all because when I got up to go to the bathroom (I shouldn’t down a glass of water right before bed…), […]
