Review & Excerpt: The Boyfriend Experience by Carly Phillips & Erika Wilde

The Faerie Queen’s review I’m a big fan of the fake relationship trope, so I jumped at the chance to read The Boyfriend Experience. The story centres around Evie and Eric, the former needing a boyfriend to accompany her to a family reunion so as to ward off pitying looks from her family after a recent breakup. This was a very light-touch romance, perfect for a mental diversion. While heavy topics were introduced, including bullying and the loss of family, it didn’t sink down into the darker feelings too much. I particularly enjoyed the easy chemistry between Evie and Eric, with lots of flirting and just enough confidence from each of them without edging into arrogance. I just wish there was more. The actual weekend went by so quickly, with only a few activities played out in any kind of detail. These could have been filled out more to show […]

About the set Excerpts Hunted “Get undressed,” Oryn broke through my thoughts, letting go of my arm and pulling at my sleeve. “Hey.” I slapped his hand away. “Don’t manhandle me. Understand? And no one is taking my clothes off but me.” And Nero, it seemed. Crap. “Sharlot, this—” “It’s Scarlet.” I rolled my eyes. “Your garments carry your scent and will slow us down. We need a distraction.” My pulse was racing as I looked back, praying the wolves weren’t close. Oryn stood there, his gaze wild. Yet mine dipped down his body because I had zero control. Oh, sweet heavens. He was bigger than Nero in the downstairs department! “Hurry. Later you […]

Review, Excerpt, & Giveaway: Lera of Lunos by Alex Lidell

The Faerie Queen’s review The series is now over! Last year, I discovered reverse harem, and one that stood out to me was Alex Lidell’s Power of Five. You can read my reviews of Power of Five, Mistake of Magic, and Trial of Three to see how this series kept delivering just what I wanted! And not just beautiful, colourful covers. Remember when the trials were Lera’s biggest problem? Well, the final trial was nothing in comparison to the real struggle introduced in Trial of Three. There were basically two tense plot scenes: the final trial in the first quarter and the showdown at the end. I honestly had no idea how that final showdown would work out, and I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out, even though one point was a bit …convenient. (I have questions, m’kay.) You’re probably then wondering what was going on in the middle of those […]

Guest Post: Darcie Boleyn, author of Love at the Northern Lights, on why you should visit Norway

Hi everyone! We have a special guest post for you from Darcie Boleyn, author of Love at the Northern Lights! Today, author will be sharing why you should visit Norway. Then read her book to see visit it in your imagination before you book your flights! Why visit Norway? Love at the Northern Lights is dedicated to my dad and to the dreams we shared. The story isn’t about him, or me, but it was inspired by our conversations and our bucket list. My dad was one of my best friends and we always planned on travelling together. Norway was one of the places we talked about visiting. With its mountains, glaciers and deep coastal fjords, it sounded perfect. There would be the chance to see authentic Viking ships in Oslo’s museum, to take a cruise on the Sognedfjord – Norway’s longest and deepest fjord – and to hike and ski. And, of course, there […]

Review & Excerpt: The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Review & Excerpt: The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

The Faerie Queen’s’s review This book was an utter delight. So much so that I did not want to stop reading, even when I had to get off the train to see friends or go to sleep so I could function at work the next day. Because, dear readers, the banter in this book was excellent. Andrew was such a tease at times, the innuendos flowing gloriously. And Poppy kept falling into his little traps, until she was winning points of her own. I was in heaven reading their dialogue. What I loved most about Andrew was that, even though he found Poppy rather annoying at first, he was always a gentleman. But not too much of a gentleman. He could play around with his words, but he always ensured he didn’t take things too far, and that at the end of the day, Poppy was safe and sound and not too unhappy with […]

Review & Giveaway: Game All Night by Lauren Helms

The Faerie Queen’s review Link and Ruby finally have their story. All that bickering is coming to fruition. Hallelujah. Do you know when you can see a car wreck coming, and time slows down? You can’t look away? That’s what reading this book was like. In a good way of course. But also a sort of terrible, angsty way. You see, both Link and Ruby are dating other people at the start of this book, and both of those relationships are not ideal. Link, on the one hand, is with someone only superficially interested in him. That’s easy enough to understand, right? He wants Amber because he doesn’t want anything serious. (Also, he totally wants Ruby from the beginning, let’s not kid ourselves.) And she wants Link (or should I say, “Lincoln”) because he’s rich and famous. Whatever. I get it. I won’t judge. What’s harder for me not to […]
