Review, Excerpt, Playlist, & Giveaway: Feels Like Falling by Elle Keating

The Faerie Queen’s review Well that was a lot more angsty and messed up than I was expecting. Before I get started, this book comes with a massive trigger warning – and I don’t care if this is spoilery because it needs to be – for child abuse and rape. The instances are described and explored in enough detail to (hopefully) make the most sheltered, blessed-with-a-perfect-life reader squirm uncomfortably. That being said, I did enjoy reading this book. Enjoy doesn’t really feel like the right word, actually… I felt compelled to read it is probably more appropriate. Even with all the darker parts bringing things down, I needed to know that Luke and Peyton made it through ok. Luckily, the connection between them was strong, the heat palpable. While a lot of scenes upset me, there were plenty that made me feel uncomfortable…in a good way. A few things did […]

She winced and twisted her head, a mumbled curse tumbling past her lips. A wave of dizziness swept over her; her stomach clenched painfully. Lana froze and swallowed the rush of bile shooting up her throat. Hot daggers stabbed at her temples. She moaned softly. It was a moment before she realized she was lying on her front on a bed. She stared blearily at the crisp white pillow in her line of sight before rolling over carefully onto her side. She studied the room she was in with […]

Review & Giveaway: Trial of Three by Alex Lidell

The Faerie Queen’s review I am straight-up addicted to this series. Alex can’t write these stories fast enough. You can read my review of book 1 and book 2 if you need to see why. Let’s first talk about the plot, and then I’ll get to the boys, yeah? Well, this might be the most exciting of the series so far. I loved the first, and then the second was a little less thrilling, but things ramp up this time round. It’s been discovered that Lera is more powerful than anyone gave her credit for, but she has no control over that power, something crucial for her to survive the trials. But it’s no longer just the trials that she has to worry about, as danger from the outside – particularly Mors – is catching up on the new quint. And while there are hints of malice from the Lunos […]

First Chapter & Giveaway: Summer of Scandal by Syrie James

Summer may be fading away, at least here in the northern hemisphere, but Avon Impulse is sneaking in some more summer romance in the form of the recently released Summer of Scandal by Syrie James! Get started with chapter 1 down below to see if this historical romance is up your street, plus enter to win a paperback copy of Runaway Heiress, the first book in the series! About the book Chapter 1 Bolton, Cornwall, England June 21, 1889 The brisk wind bit Madeleine Atherton’s cheeks as she stepped down from the train. Cornwall might be known for its temperate climate, but it felt more like November than June. At least the rain had stopped—for the moment. The rural station at Bolton was much smaller than Madeleine had remembered. Just a redbrick building that resembled a cottage, with a single wooden bench facing the tracks. The platform was empty. Beyond the station […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: A Rose in the Highlands by Heather McCollum

Runaway Englishwoman meets Highland chief in A Rose in the Highlands by Heather McCollum, the first in her new Highland Roses School series. To get you excited, I’ve got a wee excerpt – the couple’s less than friendly first meeting… – and a giveaway for an Amazon gift card! About the book Excerpt Black soot scorched upward around the door, the glass windows burst out, the remaining shards like jagged teeth set in a series of open-mouthed screams. Had the captain mistakenly set her castle ablaze? She flattened her hand to her chest and straightened as James came to the door. “The storm is upon us, milady. Best to get you three inside. I will help ye in while Thomas holds the horses.” “Thomas won’t be able to hold the horses by himself if they spook,” Evelyn said, placing her hand in James’s. “We will be fine.” Had he not seen the soot? Review, First Chapter & Giveaway: Shameless by Cherrie Lynn

The Faerie Queen’s review This is a novella for those of you who want an espresso shot of the brother’s best friend trope. Meredith gets a kick up the backside while on holiday with her brother and friends, including Cam, her brother’s best friend since childhood. After crushing on Cam for a long time, she makes her move, but will Cam be receptive? Because it was so short, I didn’t get too invested in the story. Novellas can be a struggle because there’s not a lot of time to introduce the reader to new characters and develop their relationship. Luckily, for this one, while it did feel a bit rushed at times, I was glad that there was a long history between the two main characters, and that they’d had romantic feelings for each other for a lot of that time. I personally had an issue that others might not. […]

The panther heard the vampire’s heartbeat as well and he wasn’t thrilled. The vampire stumbled back, clutching his hand over his heart. An instant later, he realized his own reactions and quickly removed his hand from his muscled chest. His expression became unreadable once again. He stepped toward me aggressively and stopped a foot from my cage. I didn’t back down, […]

Review & Giveaway: In Too Deep by Dani Collins

Review & Giveaway: In Too Deep by Dani Collins

The Faerie Queen’s review What I’ve learned about Dani Collins is that she doesn’t do just fluffy romances. Her love stories may feature elite athletes and wealthy people, and they may have their happy endings, but she does not hold back from dealing with real-life issues. If you read the previous book, From the Top, you will have met the couple starring in In Too Deep: playboy charmer and professional snowboarder Trigg and the new manager Wren, aunt and guardian to Trigg’s daughter, Skylar. I couldn’t imagine how Wren managed to “parent” Sky. At 24, I would not have been able to care for a child full-time, let alone a 12-year-old, and she’d been doing this for years by this point. Just knowing that fact made me believe Wren was strong and brave as hell, and she went on to prove that while she wasn’t perfect, she was trying her hardest to do […]
