Review & Excerpt: Hot Response by Shannon Stacey

The Faerie Queen’s review What a way to start a book… From the very first scene, I was on Team Gavin. He was so charming and caring and gaaaaah. I wanted him. His cockiness never came across as arrogance; it was just fun and endearing and sexy. He and Cait talked about how he might joke too much, and that sometimes he didn’t know when to quit, but I never saw that. Gavin was basically perfect; flawed, but nicely so. And maybe one of my favourite things about him? He had so much respect for Cait’s professional competency; there’s a scene that I wanted to share but won’t for spoiler reasons, but a man letting a woman take charge is definitely swoonworthy. Another win for Team Beta! And why did he have to have such a great smile? “See, you’re doing it right now.” “Doing what?” “That smile that probably makes […]

Buddy Read Review: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley

Buddy Read Review: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley

The GingerSnap’s review Sometimes you read a book that just doesn’t wow you, and this was one such book for me. While the plot was full of twists and turns, and I loved the clear sexual attraction between Ian and Beth, I just didn’t find myself excited to listen to chapter after chapter. Audible Romance categorised Ian as a ‘beta hero’, but I’m not entirely sure why. I definitely felt like he took the reins in the relationship for most of the book, and he was pretty overprotective of Beth at times, which made him lean slightly toward the alpha category. However, he also wasn’t totally confident in himself, and I always associate confidence with alpha heroes, so I’d categorise him as a gamma hero. Now, back to the crux of the review: why I didn’t love the book. Part of my lack of enthusiasm for the book was […]

Review: The Best Friend Incident by Melia Alexander

The Faerie Queen’s review After a couple dud books, I needed something cute, and The Best Friend Incident delivered. With just enough angst and a conflict that didn’t last too long, it was a quick, sweet read about two best friends who start to feel some non-friendy things for each other after a case of mistaken identity in the dark. And it came complete with a wise old man! Stacey was a very bubbly sort, but not in an overbearing way. She was caring and ambitious, and she clearly had to be very detail-oriented to start a business creating perfect romantic dates for couples. (By the way, what a great idea, catering to people who want to be romantic but aren’t good at organising dates or don’t have time to.) I loved that she was a romantic; she knew what she wanted, and why should she have to settle? Meanwhile, Grant […]

Review: The Duchess War by Courtney Milan

The GingerSnap’s review It is a truth universally acknowledged that when every single person in your sphere raves about something, you need to be cautious. Sure, they all adored that book/movie/TV show, but if you’ve decided to consume that media and go into it with the highest of all expectations, you’re bound to be disappointed. I, however, was not one bit disappointed with this fucking gem of a book despite that basically every romance reader everywhere LOVED IT. Great things about this book, in no particular order: the book is set in Leicester, giving me personally a much-needed break from historical romance set in London there is diversity of classes: Minnie and her aunts are middle class, while Robert is from the peerage there are diverse family structures. Minnie is raised mostly by her two aunts and Robert and Oliver are half-brothers who found each other in adolescence the plot […]
