A Month in Review: February 2018

Another month has come and gone, and now it’s time for some reflection! What we read The Faerie Queen My month began with an Audible binge of the Room Mates series by Kendall Ryan, as you can get all four of the main books for one credit! (I have since managed to arrange an Audible Romance package even though I’m in the UK…shhhh.) I really enjoyed all of them, although the second made me feel a bit icky. I also read the second book in the Hijinks Harem series by Tate James and C.M. Stunich, but it was a bit too much of the same for me, so I don’t think I’ll be continuing the series. I had two winners in The Bastard’s Bargain by Katee Robert and Ball Peen Hammer by Lauren Rowe, followed by a definite no for me with Seared by Suleikha Snyder (who accidentally found the review […]

Harlequin DARE Launch!

Harlequin has a new imprint featuring strong, independent women and sizzling hot heroes: DARE! DARE delivers riveting, irresistible romances featuring highly explicit sexual encounters, making it the publisher’s sexiest imprint ever. Look for four new titles each month! Sexy. Passionate. Bold. Harlequin Website  |  Harlequin DARE  |  Twitter  |  Facebook And because we couldn’t pick, we’re featuring all four books today to start the party. Read excerpts to whet your appetite, and enjoy a review for A Week to be Wild! The Faerie Queen’s review A Week to Be Wild hooked me from the very beginning. It’s not often I can say that, as it’s more common for books to take about 10% to find their feet. But not with this one. I could feel the chemistry and was invested in the relationship from the first chapter. A few things made this really work for me. First of all, the […]

Review: Jane of Austin by Hillary Manton Lodge

Review: Jane of Austin by Hillary Manton Lodge

TheGingerSnap’s review Truth be told, I knew there was basically no way I wasn’t going to like this book. It has all of my catnip: Jane Austen retelling, strong female friendship/sisterly bonds, and lots of scenes of people drinking tea. The book is a retelling of Sense and Sensibility set in modern-day Austin, Texas. Jane Woodward and her sisters Celia and Margot have lived above their quaint tea shop in San Francisco for years, but after their elderly landlord dies, Celia breaks up with her boyfriend of forever, and they’re forced to leave their home, the girls make the move to Austin, Texas. Celia reconnects with a long-lost relation, Ian Vandermeide, who’s more than willing to put the girls up in his property’s casita in Austin while they get back on their feet. When they get to Austin, Jane and Celia realise it’s much harder to find a new space […]

About the book Excerpt “What the fuck, Lucy?” “Hmm?” “You know exactly what I’m talking about.” He pulled her dress up, though he didn’t need the confirmation. “You come in here with that cock tease of a dress and you aren’t wearing panties.” Jealousy and desire twisted viciously through him. “Were you going to give Aaron a little show?” “Oh, please. Give me a little credit.” She lifted her chin. “I’m proving a point. You, Gideon Novak, don’t get to make my decisions for me. I […]

Review: Ball Peen Hammer by Lauren Rowe

Review: Ball Peen Hammer by Lauren Rowe

The Faerie Queen’s review I loved this book because it surprised the hell out of me. I didn’t expect to enjoy a book about a male stripper. I didn’t expect to love a self-proclaimed man-whore. I didn’t expect said stripper to throw out so much wisdom about what women deserve, particularly in the sack. I didn’t expect to learn about my own damn anatomy from a book about a male stripper/player. I didn’t expect to question by own prejudices. But, my people, I did. Keane Morgan initially grated on my nerves. He came across as self-important, and his frequent use of terms like “babydoll” made me shudder. Maybe I should have paid more attention to the blurb; Maddie was just as annoyed with Keane at first, but he won us both over, slowly but surely. Well done to Lauren Rowe for making me fall in love with a male stripper […]

Excerpt: Just Say (Hell) No by Rosalind James

Fun fact. The Faerie Queen happens to love rugby, and a recent release happens to cater to that: Just Say (Hell) No by Rosalind James! Enjoy an excerpt from the book, enter the giveaway, and look forward to a review next month as we explore sports romance! About the book Excerpt Nyree knew it was two kilometers to Achilles Point. She didn’t look at her watch to see how long it was taking. The point was, she made it. She puffed her way up the final incline, which felt more like a mountain, tried to tell herself, Gorgeous sea view, and failed. Maybe it was the black spots that were swimming in her vision. She bent over from the waist to haul in a few precious breaths and focused on not being sick. When she stood up again, she saw him. He’d just run the stairs from the beach. She […]

Review: His Outback Nanny by Annie Seaton

Review: His Outback Nanny by Annie Seaton

The Faerie Queen’s review I’m going to need to keep an eye on Annie Seaton, because I really enjoyed His Outback Nanny. I mean, I couldn’t stop. Having read a few nanny-turned-lover stories recently, it seems I have developed a taste for them. And I already know I love a good fake relationship story! His Outback Nanny very much had traditional gender roles at its heart. Ned was The Farmer, strong and hunky, the physical labourer and strategiser. Meanwhile, Jemima took the role of housekeeper, cook, and gardener, plus doing the most work to take care of Ned’s children, though he came in to lavish love on them. (Basically, he wanted to do all of the fun stuff while she handled the messy stuff.) And for their personalities, this division of labour did make sense. I can appreciate that not everyone wants the same kinds of things out of life, and despite […]

Review: The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke

Review: The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke

The Faerie Queen’s review I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but contemporary romances have typically been my thing. You see, I adore Jane Austen, and though her books are very tame by today’s standards, they nevertheless have a power over me, one that brings me back time and again for more Darcy. (I love other classics, too, but I am an Austen fangirl.) I had an unfortunate experience with the first historical romance I read, back when I first became a blogger three years ago, and it has coloured my view of the genre. I have, for the most part, avoided it since then. This book was completely unputdownable. I haven’t eaten in 16 hours, aside from a couple pieces of dark chocolate. I managed to pull myself away long enough to get 5 hours of sleep and go to the bathroom when I couldn’t hold it in any longer. […]
