Review: Perfect Ten by Kelley R. Martin

The Faerie Queen’s review This was so quick and easy to read! With a charming hero, a feisty heroine, and several sex scenes packed into the 125 pages, it was nice and naughty train read that I really enjoyed. So much so that I gave it 4 stars. That is, until I realised something. This blog is called Love in a time of Feminism, so you’d imagine we’d like ladies with substance round here. On the surface, there is a bit of that; Caroline doesn’t take shit from men, and she’s determined to support her retired mother and student brother. But dig a little deeper, and what do you find? A heroine with conveniently no dreams or aspirations of her own. Not once was what she wants in her future really discussed, aside from where she wants to live. Makes it super convenient for her to give up her life, doesn’t […]

Review: Mad Love by Shana Vanterpool

Review: Mad Love by Shana Vanterpool

TRIGGER WARNING: References to rape and physical abuse. Faerie Queen’s review It’s not about being perfect. It’s about having more good days than bad. Hmmm. HMMMMMMMMMMM. Ok. This book and I got off to a rocky start, much like the two main characters. It was so cliché, starting with a gorgeous guy only interested in meaningless sex. Then there was the rampant slut-shaming. And let’s not forget that I was nervous about how it would handle the topic of rape. That’s not to say that books should not talk about rape, but it’s important that they don’t use it as a plot device. Well, the whole plot revolved around a young woman after escaping her rapist, so… You should decide whether you want to dive into that. BUTTTTTTTTT Man, did I get wrapped up in this story after I had my fair share of eye-rolling at the clichés. I felt […]

Excerpt: Perfect Love by Amanda Cowen

Hiya, and welcome back! Today, we’re giving you a little taste of Perfect Love by Amanda Cowen! First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt I’m not a light sleeper. I never wake up in the middle of the night. Which is exactly why I’m surprised when my body is startled awake out of a peaceful sleep. It’s like I could sense his warm body missing from mine. I’m alone. I sit up on the edge of the sofa hearing nothing but silence. The living room is dark, the television is off, and the only light I can see is faintly coming from under the door of Cash’s bedroom. Could he be awake? I tiptoe down the hallway and push open his door a crack to see him sitting on the edge of his bed, an empty glass […]

Excerpt: Mad Love by Shana Vanterpool

Hiya, and welcome back! Today, we’re giving you a little taste of Mad Love by Shana Vanterpool! I actually picked up the book earlier today through Kindle Unlimited because I’m a sucker for gruff guys (in books…because I’d give them a slap in real life). First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt Life had a way of expunging your expectations. But it also had a way of rebuilding them. I met a hero the day I walked into Klayton’s tattoo shop, broken and terrified. My heart was tattered, and my mental state was a plain of rubble in my skull. He wasn’t your typical hero. But atypical was exactly what I needed. I needed strength to combat my weaknesses. I needed love to fight my terror. And I needed someone to look at me like I was […]

Excerpt: Holding On by Allie Everhart

Happy Wednesday! Today, we’re bringing you a bit of Holding On by Allie Everhart! First, here’s the book info, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt Becca “Raincoat or umbrella?” Ethan asks. “I don’t get the question.” “When it rains, would you rather have a raincoat or an umbrella? Assuming you could only have one.” “Raincoat,” I say, not even needing to think about it. “I like the feel of rain on my face. But being in soaking wet clothes isn’t fun. And even with an umbrella, your clothes still end up getting wet. So raincoat. Definitely. Which would you pick? Raincoat or umbrella?” “Neither. I don’t mind if I get soaked in the rain, as long as I’m not wearing jeans. Wet jeans suck.” “Totally. So you’re saying if you were wearing jeans, you’d pick the raincoat.” “Correct. Okay, next question. Chocolate or fruity? […]

Excerpt: All I Want is You by Cassie Cross

It’s release day for All I Want is You by Cassie Cross, and I’ve got a couple of tasty treats to get you hooked on this sexy standalone novella. Here’s the usual book info, followed by TWO excerpts (I couldn’t pick one…), and finishing off with a giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt #1 Hot Guy is incredibly tall, has a mop of dirty-blond hair, and raspy scruff peppering his movie-star jawline. A tight henley shows off every inch of his broad chest and muscular arms from where he stands across the room, just staring at me. Seems I’ve caught his eye, too. That never happens to me. His lips part when our eyes meet, like he wants to call out to me or something, but instead he keeps on staring. Staring in a way that makes my heart beat double time, that makes my knees weak. He doesn’t smile, […]

I just couldn’t go home after everything he told me. I didn’t accept the invite to come with him on the boat today though. I didn’t ask him if he was going without me either. If he is, wouldn’t he be inviting some “friends,” some Alicias or Silks? I don’t want to know. It’s not difficult to get my shifts back at Mintrer’s. With Il Signore’s nonna at the hospital, the family spends as much time at her bedside as […]

Excerpt: More Than This by Clare James

Hiya, and welcome back! Today, we’re giving you a little taste of MORE THAN THIS by Clare James! There’s a sale on at the moment, and you can pick up this particular book in the Impossible Love series for FREE. First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt If a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m pretty sure this one includes every dirty term in the dictionary… and even some that aren’t. Because…whoa! But it’s not so much a picture that’s currently conjuring up these filthy words as it is a live image, complete with a real-life man. And as I stand in the room, like I have so many times, I assess him as I would any subject—taking in the light and the lines, the colors and composition. My eyes are the lens and I zoom-in […]

Review: Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

Review: Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

The Faerie Queen’s review I LOVED THIS BOOK. The timing of its release was perfect. I had a group project to work on and was getting stressed, and this helped me to escape into romantic lalaland. I found myself drawn to my Kindle any time I had a free moment to spare, and I sure as hell did not get as much sleep as I could have. I found Ruby relatable as a 23/24yo. She had certain skills, but she didn’t really believe in herself or have it all together. She was ok-ish with her looks, not hating them but not thinking she was Hot Stuff. There was just enough clumsiness and funny reactions to make her believable without her being The Clumsy Stereotype. I could also understand Ruby’s relationships with family members, and how living at home made her feel and behave like a kid, as even though I […]
