I just couldn’t go home after everything he told me. I didn’t accept the invite to come with him on the boat today though. I didn’t ask him if he was going without me either. If he is, wouldn’t he be inviting some “friends,” some Alicias or Silks? I don’t want to know. It’s not difficult to get my shifts back at Mintrer’s. With Il Signore’s nonna at the hospital, the family spends as much time at her bedside as […]

Excerpt: More Than This by Clare James

Hiya, and welcome back! Today, we’re giving you a little taste of MORE THAN THIS by Clare James! There’s a sale on at the moment, and you can pick up this particular book in the Impossible Love series for FREE. First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt If a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m pretty sure this one includes every dirty term in the dictionary… and even some that aren’t. Because…whoa! But it’s not so much a picture that’s currently conjuring up these filthy words as it is a live image, complete with a real-life man. And as I stand in the room, like I have so many times, I assess him as I would any subject—taking in the light and the lines, the colors and composition. My eyes are the lens and I zoom-in […]

Review: Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

Review: Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

The Faerie Queen’s review I LOVED THIS BOOK. The timing of its release was perfect. I had a group project to work on and was getting stressed, and this helped me to escape into romantic lalaland. I found myself drawn to my Kindle any time I had a free moment to spare, and I sure as hell did not get as much sleep as I could have. I found Ruby relatable as a 23/24yo. She had certain skills, but she didn’t really believe in herself or have it all together. She was ok-ish with her looks, not hating them but not thinking she was Hot Stuff. There was just enough clumsiness and funny reactions to make her believable without her being The Clumsy Stereotype. I could also understand Ruby’s relationships with family members, and how living at home made her feel and behave like a kid, as even though I […]

Review: Playing Pretend by Juliana Haygert

Review: Playing Pretend by Juliana Haygert

The Faerie Queen’s review This was a quick, easy read. Starring Charlotte –a reluctant rich college girl– and Mason –a Masters student on the rebound after a failed relationship– who meet on spring break, have an obsessive fling and then split, not sharing personal info because they believe they’ll never meet again. And yet they do meet, and the truth comes out. Both Charlotte and Mason were likeable enough, and they worked well together, except when there was drama. (There’s always drama.) While there was some heat in this book, it wasn’t too graphic, at least compared to some other NA books I’ve read. My main issue with this book was that it was a bit too formulaic. Petite heroine (seriously??? Again???); towering hero (ok, not complaining about this one); repetitive, “perfect” sex; secrets that, if they came out, would ruin everything. I know NA books do tend to have a similar basic plot structure, […]

Excerpt: Royally Wed by Pamela DuMond

Hiya, and welcome back! Today, we’re sharing the first chapter of Royally Wed by Pamela DuMond! First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Chapter 1 I lay collapsed on my back, naked except for the tiara on my head. An ornate silver cheese platter rested on the bed next to me. “Hey, aren’t we supposed to be attending a surprise party tonight?” I fanned my face. “No, Lucy.” Prince Nicholas Frederick Timmel of Fredonia picked up the tray and placed it on a nightstand. “But thanks for the appetizers.” He wrapped his muscular arms around me and squeezed me tight as he lay next to me—scratch that—for-the-most-part on top of me, on the king-size feather top bed. “We’ve attended back-to-back pre-wedding galas, cocktail parties, and family gatherings. Tonight is blessedly free. I think you’re simply exhausted from the […]

Guest Post: Melody Winter, author of Iniquity, on being 21

Hi everyone! We have a special guest post for you from Melody Winter, author of Iniquity! Today, Melody will be talking about how her life at 21 compared to Athena’s. You can also find out more about her book and enter a giveaway at the end! Melody and Athena at 21 It’s very different in a lot of ways. At 21 I was at university. I was independent to a certain degree, needing to cook, clean and do my own laundry. But even though I was busy studying, I also had quite an eventful social life and travelled a lot during vacations. Athena has a very restricted life in comparison. She’s been very much on her own since she was sixteen when her gran was killed. The only social life she has is meeting her friends in the evenings or celebrating with the whole village at the monthly feast. I think the biggest difference is […]

Meet The Cast: Dark One’s Mistress by Aldrea Alien

Hey! Today, please join us in welcoming the cast of Dark One’s Mistress by Aldrea Alien! But let’s first set the stage, shall we? About the book The Main Cast! Clarabelle Weaver Age: 17 Height: 5’6 Hair: Waist-length and the colour of fresh blood. Eye Colour: Brown Build: Average Status: Apprentice Seamstress / Mistress Background: Clara is the only living child born to Marian and Thomas Weaver. Typical of Everdark residents, she remained under both the care and unpaid employ of her widowed mother when her father’s health failed him. Classically trained in the way of the Goddess and the Great Lord’s Law, she is, at first impression, little different from her peers, if perhaps a bit sharp of tongue. Although training in the same profession, she shows little interest in the task and is prone to bookishness. Great Lord Lucias Age: 25 Height: 5’11 Hair: Black and shoulder-length Eye Colour: Dark […]

Review: Dark Desires by Eve Silver

Review: Dark Desires by Eve Silver

The Faerie Queen’s review I read Dark Desires as part of my challenge to read a different subgenre of romance each month, and the first month happened to be gothic romance, just in time for Halloween. I wasn’t entirely sure what “gothic romance” was going in, so I did some reading and basically got “old school mystery with a dark, dangerous, brooding hero”. Apparently, Jane Eyre falls into this category? Yeah, I didn’t know that either. Anyway, I chose Dark Desires for two reasons: It was a fairly recently published gothic romance, and I really wasn’t feeling a desire to read old school stuff. Partly because I wanted steaminess. Don’t judge. Also, it was free on Kindle. Eve was doing the whole ‘make the first book free and they’ll come back to pay for the rest of the series’ trick. It might just work for me… Let’s see! Full disclosure: […]
