Review: Anatomy of a Player by Cindi Madsen

Review: Anatomy of a Player by Cindi Madsen

I loved this book. Anatomy of a Player had a sexy college hockey player, a career-oriented aspiring journalist, plenty of humour and delicious sexual tension. I could fall into both Whitney and Hudson’s heads and believe what they believed – mostly that they were perfect for each other, even when they didn’t see it. While the plot was overall predictable, how Madsen filled it out was fun, emotional and filled with enough surprises and treats to more than satisfy me. Work was torture because all I wanted to do was keep reading! Best and worst The best thing about this book: THE CHEMISTRY The […]

DNF Review: Mystical by Michael Weekly

DNF Review: Mystical by Michael Weekly

I can’t believe I’m saying this again, but once again, an idea with potential has been ruined by rushed publication and poor editing. Maybe I have high standards, since I’m starting to sound like a broken record with these blog tour books. This story had a fresh twist on witches and the potential to be a kickass paranormal action series (think Buffy, but creepy fairies rather than vampires). Unfortunately, the writing was stilted and riddled with errors, poor phrasing (“You’re much different and more amazing.”) and weird summary paragraphs after any action. There were mid-sentence tense changes! I VERY MUCH […]

Review: The Lightning Prophecy by Emily Cyr

Review: The Lightning Prophecy by Emily Cyr

The Lightning Prophecy is an enjoyable, if a bit predictable, new adult paranormal romance, told from the perspectives of Delaney (a lightning witch) and Reid (a private investigator with a predatorial side). The story was exciting and different, and the chemistry was hot, hot, hot! However, the book was held back a bit by the lack of editing and some unbelievable emotional reactions. This is a good start to a trilogy that I will be following up on! Best and worst The best thing about this book: The overall plot was fresh and exciting. The worst thing about this book: There was […]

Review: The V Girl by Mya Robarts

Review: The V Girl by Mya Robarts

Before I continue, I want to make this absolutely clear. This book could be potentially triggering for people who have suffered abuse and/or rape. If you can handle it, make sure to keep reading for an excerpt and a giveaway! The V Girl is a deeply uncomfortable book to read, but I couldn’t stop. Tackling hard issues such as war, abuse, rape, with a heavy mix of growing up and figuring out your own sexuality, Robarts told a story I am a little frightened to say I loved. Narrated by Lila, an 18-year-old girl in the fractured former United States, […]

Review: Sparked by Sheena Snow

Review: Sparked by Sheena Snow

Hi everyone! I arrived in South Africa this morning, and I am so freaking happy. Anyway, I was supposed to bring you today a review and an interview, but it seems something got missed in communication, so all I have for you is a review! Hopefully, I’ll be able to update this post with the interview at some point…   This review pains me a little to write, so I’m going to rip the bandage off and make it quick. Simply put, this story was published too soon. Like a very premature baby, so much of it is underdeveloped and could have […]

Review: Amber Smoke by Kristin Cast

Review: Amber Smoke by Kristin Cast

Quick review Amber Smoke is a great start to a guilty pleasure New Adult series. It combines Greek mythology with crime, swapping focus between Alek (Mr. Hotstuff Immortal Greek Warrior), Eva and a pair of cops trying to solve the mystery of a dead girl. In true NA form, there is a hint of steaminess, though not too much or too explicit. The focus is more on everyone running to or away from each other. It is a relatively quick read and sets the series up for more monsters to come. Read this if you: a) enjoy crime shows like […]
