Review: A Princess’s Duty by Sloane Murphy

The Faerie’s Queen review Before I get into my review, here were my reasons for reading this book: That gorgeous cover. I am obsessed with it. The fierce profile with the flames just work. I am nicknamed the Faerie Queen. This is for a reason. Because I love everything fae. Obvs. Forbidden love between a royal and a non-royal. What is a Hunter? Is this a human hunter? Is it a special sort of fae? So I had expectations, and I had questions. But here’s the thing… it didn’t work for me, and I could sense that pretty quickly. In fact, I DNF’d at 12%. Here’s why… First of all, this book should come with a handful of trigger warnings. It’s got murder, threats of rape, emotional abuse, and physical abuse all within the prologue and first chapter. There were also just so many inconsistencies and things that confused me. Why would […]

Excerpt: A Princess’s Duty by Sloane Murphy

It’s a new month and therefore a fresh start. To kick of October right, I’ve got an excerpt for you from a faerie book I’m immensely excited for: A Princess’s Duty by Sloane Murphy! I can’t wait for October 22nd… Just look at that cover! About the book Excerpt There are so many people in here. Royals and social climbers of the Winter Court, I try to see into the edge of the room, cast in shadows, but the light surrounding me blinds me from it. The applause continues as I make my way onto the stage, in front of the table where the Vasara’s sit, with Cade to the left of his father who is just an older, slightly greying version of Cade, and Rowan to the right by his mother. I curtsy as tradition dictates and hold my submissive position until I am released by King Earon’s words. “Emilia […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: Unleashed by Bella Jacobs

Happy Monday! Last week, Bella Jacobs released the first book in her Dark Moon Shifters’ series, Unleashed. You guys are in for a treat, as I’ve got an emotional excerpt for you, plus there’s a giveaway with three prizes to win! About the book Excerpt Kite’s breath rushes out, his shoulders sagging with a relief that makes me feel like I’ve done something more important than answer a question. “Good. Keep trusting me, bird girl, and I’m going to show you a whole new world. A world where you can be the powerhouse you are on the inside.” The backs of my eyes begin to sting, but I’m smiling when I say, “There’s no cure, Kite. I might never go back into remission, let alone get better.” He pauses, seeming to debate something silently before he whispers, “But then again, you might.” Before I can assure him that hope is a lost […]

DNF Review: Condemned by Marianne Morea

DNF Review: Condemned by Marianne Morea

The Faerie Queen’s review I was meant to publish this review on release day, but it’s always painful when you’re hopeful about a book and then discover it does not suit you. I was eager to read about vampires who lived through extraordinary historical events, and I liked the idea of an academic struggling to come to terms with the existence of creatures she’s considered legends. The biggest stumbling block from the beginning was how Dominic came across. Instead of a dark, sexy hero, he came across like a wise, old man. Yes, he is wise, and he is old, but when writing vampire heroes, you need to portray them as experienced but still as youthful as the day they “died”. At best, I could see Dominic being like Ned Stark. Instead of a hot vampire romance, Dominic initially came across as creepy old man lusting over a much younger woman. […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: Of Ashes and Sin by Ariana Hawkes & K. N. Knight

I know we just shared an excerpt, but this one is completely different. This one is for you Reverse Harem fans, from Of Ashes and Sin by Ariana Hawkes & K. N. Knight! And don’t miss the $30 Amazon gift card giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt The guys went into the pool again after breakfast, their bronzed bodies glistening in the sunlight, but I kept my clothes on and took a walk around the perimeter of the area instead. I was edgy in a way I couldn’t explain. Yes, I was restless, but it wasn’t just that. I looked over at the three of them. Oran was swimming, his muscular back and tight buns showing on the surface of the water, while Zain and Rael were stretched out naked, two perfect specimens of manhood. I laughed hollowly. This would be any woman’s ultimate fantasy. Am I crazy not to just relax […]

Excerpt & Giveaway: Not Her Gargoyle by Annie Nicholas

We all know first kiss scenes are so difficult to write but so delicious to read. Well, we can safely say that the scene down below made the Faerie Queen squirm – in a good way! Take a peek, then get your hands on Not Her Gargoyle by Annie Nicholas! About the book Excerpt His mouth tipped up at one corner into a sultry smile. The kind that made women drop their panties. The kind that turned Ruby’s knees into jelly. “Really?” he asked as he strode forward. He looked like an animal, sleek and sensuous. Shoulders rolling as he moved. She might have ovulated. Her back hit the wall and only then did she realize her retreat. When had she backed down to a man? Sexual control was her super power. The only one she’d owned. Nick changed everything. He didn’t stop his advance until they were almost touching, and […]

Excerpts: The Hunt for an Alpha tour, featuring Bitten Under Fire by Heather Long and Wolf of Her Own by N.J. Walters

We’ve got a double-whammy for you today! As part of the Hunt for an Alpha tour, we have excerpts from two new wolf shifter books: Bitten Under Fire by Heather Long and Wolf of Her Own by N.J. Walters! Excerpt Cottonmouth and cracked lips woke Bianca. Her eyelids weighed a ton, and her knuckles burned. Then the twinges along her back added insult to injury. Awareness following discomfort, Bianca jerked as her eyes opened. Beeping machines, a hiss of oxygen, dim lighting, and a swaying sensation all surrounded her. “Hello there,” an unfamiliar voice greeted her. The woman who appeared in her line of sight wore a uniform, her blonde hair perfectly tucked and pinned. “I’m Corpsman McGinnis, and you’re aboard the USS Seahawke. Do you know your name?” “Bianca,” she began, but the word came out strained and choked. Coughing, she closed her eyes and grimaced. “Easy, take a sip of […]

Review: Secrets in the Shadows, a Shifter Anthology

Review: Secrets in the Shadows, a Shifter Anthology

The Faerie Queen’s review Anthologies are always a risk for me, especially when published independently. The last one I tried was a disaster, with no proofreading and only half-baked ideas. Writing short stories can often be tougher than writing novels, as you have less time to get the characters, world, and plot together. But I do try to pick up an anthology from time to time, especially when delving into a genre I haven’t read in a while, as it’s a way to almost play catch up with the genre, plus it’s a great way to get to know some new authors. That’s why I gave this one a try. No, I didn’t read all of the stories. I’m a big believer in putting down books you don’t enjoy, and that applies to anthologies. If I wasn’t clicking with the story a couple chapters in, I moved on. In fact, […]

Review: Consort of Secrets by Eva Chase

The Faerie Queen’s review Ever since Reverse Harem Month, I’ve been keeping an eye on the subgenre. There’s something extra delightfully naughty about not having to choose between your favourite types of heroes. You can have the bad boy, the nice guy, the dark and handsome figure… It may not be common in real life, but romance allows us to explore our fantasies, and having a group to give you the love you desire (physically and emotionally) is actually a rather nice one. And you know what? This was a rather nice reverse harem story. It was easy to read, and very quick, too. It didn’t take long to jump onto the action, and I had my suspicions and hopes set from the very beginning. The Big Bad was somewhat of a stereotype, but I was fine with that. And as much as I love my romance, it was sort […]

Excerpt: Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson

Reverse harem time… We’ve got an excerpt from Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson! If you enjoy the taster, this book is available on Kindle Unlimited! About the book Excerpt Oh, hell no. I’m not getting caught up in that. Nope, no dark flames burning me to ash please. Spinning around, I strode forward in the opposite direction. I could feel the stares at the back of my head, but I didn’t give two flying fucks. I went back to my cell, grabbed my dust filled blanket and huddled in the corner. Might as well ride this invasion out in the comfort of my musty, cramped cell. “Did she really just go back to her cell?” A voice questioned, with a sound of amusement. I could hear footsteps approaching as I continued my hiding attempt. I tried to make myself as small as possible as I curled in a ball, tightening the […]
