#BookReview: FOR THE CLAN by Archer Kay Leah

For the Clan was a bit of an experiment for me. I had yet to make it through an M/M romance novel, though that was because the few I’ve tried had been poorly written, not because of the orientation. But I finished this one! I will admit to being a little nervous, but I actually enjoyed it! I think readers should go in knowing that, while the book is set in a dystopian world with magic (!!!), that was all secondary. Above all, this was a romance novel. Luckily, I like romances, and I liked reading an unusual one where the one character, Jace, […]

#BookReview: BEYOND YOUR TOUCH by Pat Esden

First off, if you haven’t read the first book yet, check out my review of A Hold on Me to see why you should definitely read it! I stand by what I said about the first book: this is a great New Adult paranormal series, one that I recommend to anyone who likes paranormal and a wants to try NA, or vice versa. Again, Annie was flawed and made plenty of mistakes. Plenty. She was jealous and paranoid and let it get the best of her, but I could understand why. The one relationship she’d had before had resulted in the guy ditching […]

#NAAugust #BookReview: A HOLD ON ME by Pat Esden

A Hold on Me surprised, delighted and frightened me. Annie and her father travel the country hunting down antiques and selling them. Before Annie can go off to make something of herself on her own, her father starts exhibiting symptoms of dementia…after visiting an abandoned church. Annie hides this fact as long as she can, but it’s not long before she must return with her father to his childhood home in Maine and the family he left behind 15 years before after a mysterious accident claimed the life of Annie’s mother. There, Annie begins to notice strange things and uncover […]

#BookReview: SHADOW by Christi J. Whitney

I 100% believe that this series needs more attention. Come on, guys. Gypsies! Gargoyles! GARGOYLES! WHY ARE YOU GUYS NOT READING THIS?! First off, yes, this is the second book in the series. I read both books back-to-back, and you can read my late night thoughts about the first book, Grey, by clicking on this shiny button… I’ll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible. As such, it’s a little shorter than usual, but I think I already made my opinion clear about what you should be doing up above. Shadow picks up about five months after the end […]

#BookReview: HALFWAY DEAD by Terry Maggert

#BookReview: HALFWAY DEAD by Terry Maggert

Halfway Dead was an unexpected delight, a taste of something a little bit different in what I’ve been reading recently. It was told from the first person perspective of Carlie McEwan, a white witch (as in white magic) who lives in the small town of Halfway, New York, working as a diner cook during the day and fulfilling spell requests at night. This book was… different. It was not as dramatic as YA and even NA can be, but it was still interesting. It had an easy tone while still adding mystery and intrigue. On the whole, Maggert has a […]

Snap Review: The Truth Spell by Anita Oh

Snap Review: The Truth Spell by Anita Oh

I am completely in love with this book! It’s a short book (128 pages), so it’s easily read in a sitting, but the sarcastic humour and genuinely mysterious plot make it feel like a breeze to get through. A very insistent breeze that wants you to sit down and keep reading. I read while on a 7-hour Skype call with my book besties from Books Are My Fandom, who got to hear all my reactions and some choice quotes. Especially the sexual innuendos and insults (which, in context, don’t sound as dirty, FYI.) Lucy was basically me: IT geek, with my […]

DNF Review: Mystical by Michael Weekly

DNF Review: Mystical by Michael Weekly

I can’t believe I’m saying this again, but once again, an idea with potential has been ruined by rushed publication and poor editing. Maybe I have high standards, since I’m starting to sound like a broken record with these blog tour books. This story had a fresh twist on witches and the potential to be a kickass paranormal action series (think Buffy, but creepy fairies rather than vampires). Unfortunately, the writing was stilted and riddled with errors, poor phrasing (“You’re much different and more amazing.”) and weird summary paragraphs after any action. There were mid-sentence tense changes! I VERY MUCH […]
