Review & Excerpt: Hot Response by Shannon Stacey

Review & Excerpt: Hot Response by Shannon Stacey

The Faerie Queen’s review What a way to start a book… From the very first scene, I was on Team Gavin. He was so charming and caring and gaaaaah. I wanted him. His cockiness never came across as arrogance; it was just fun and endearing and sexy. He and Cait talked about how he might joke too much, and that sometimes he didn’t know when to quit, but I never saw that. Gavin was basically perfect; flawed, but nicely so. And maybe one of my favourite things about him? He had so much respect for Cait’s professional competency; there’s a scene that I wanted to share but won’t for spoiler reasons, but a man letting a woman take charge is definitely swoonworthy. Another win for Team Beta! And why did he have to have such a great smile? “See, you’re doing it right now.” “Doing what?” “That smile that probably makes […]

Review & Excerpt: Virgin Territory by Lia Riley

Review & Excerpt: Virgin Territory by Lia Riley

The Faerie Queen’s review TW: High school bullying, grief, drug use, stalking Anyone who has stuck around for the last three years of me blogging will know that I developed a love for ice hockey romances. Don’t ask me why. I’ve never watched a game, and about all I know is that people play with sticks, pucks, and fists, and the game is divided into periods, not halves or quarters. That’s it. But books about ice hockey players really get me going, and I’m just going to go with it. I figured this book would be a safe bet. A goalie with a bit of a temper is sent to relax with a yoga instructor. Said goalie also happens to be a virgin (wow, a virgin hero?!), while the yoga instructor is a few years older and a quite a bit more experienced. Neither wants relationships for different reasons. And […]

And if you want to know what we think about the book, the GingerSnap reviewed My Once and Future Duke on her blog. Our interview with Caroline What literary pilgrimages have you gone on? I went to Bath in England. It wasn’t entirely a pilgrimage, but it was very inspirational—I wrote a book (Blame It on Bath) set there solely because I’d been and seen it for myself, and also spent a fortune on research materials I was very keen to deduct as work-related. What are common traps for aspiring writers? I suspect the two biggest are almost diametrically opposite. One is thinking that your book must be […]

She smiled reassuringly. “We feel the same way about so many things.” She put her hand on his sleeve. His gaze went to where her hand lay, and she wished she was daring enough to run the fingers of her other hand through his hair. She wasn’t, not yet. Perhaps later, after everything was settled. “And since we are of much the same mind, I know that it […]

She bent over from the waist to haul in a few precious breaths and focused on not being sick. When she stood up again, she saw him. He’d just run the stairs from the beach. She […]

Excerpt: For the Sake of His Heir by Joanne Rock

Today seems like a good day for a snowball fight, and we’ve got just that thanks to this excerpt from For the Sake of His Heir by Joanne Rock! First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt Brianne was busy scooping up another snowball, scraping red gloves through the foot of accumulation on the wooden deck. She’d traded her wool cape for a red down parka and boots. A gray knit cap was pulled low over her eyes, her ponytail covered with snow and hanging bedraggled over one shoulder. His loafers would be ruined, but he had no intention of leaving the aggression unanswered, especially after he’d heard that laughter of hers. Had she moved on from their earlier disagreement? Or simply found an outlet for her frustration with him? He’d thought dinner would smooth things over between them, […]
