Review: Blame It on the Bet by L.E. Rico

The Faerie Queen’s review “You’ll get hurt again at some point in your life. We all do. That’s the price of living. But what’s the point of living if you don’t at least try?” Fellow readers, I have been on a heartwarming journey about home, family, and finding out who you are alongside someone who loves that very person. It was full of fuzzies. I can understand why this is an Entangled Bliss story as opposed to one of the other Entangled imprints. The focus of the romance was very warm but not hot, if you know what I mean. The steamier stuff was hinted at, but while Hennessy and Bryan did find each other very attractive, it was their respective personalities and vulnerabilities that drew them to each other. I also loved how there wasn’t any messing about, not really. Hennessy was especially direct, and it was unexpected and […]

Deleted Scene: Between You and Me by Lynn Turner

So not quite an excerpt today… We actually have a deleted scene for you this time from Between You and Me by Lynn Turner! First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Deleted scene Christmas Eve Finn removed the large gift box he’d hidden in Emanuela’s closet and set it on the bed in front of her.  He sat at its edge, his obvious anticipation of her opening it almost as great as hers. “Happy Christmas Eve, Emmi.” She smiled and, at his nod, lifted the lid.  “Whoa.” She reached in, carefully lifting the model house from the box.  It was alabaster in color, and the detailing was incredible. She recognized the floor-to-ceiling windows at the south end and gasped, turning it to admire the familiar wrap-around deck.  There were grooves indicating the planks of wood the deck was made […]

Excerpt: The Best Man’s Proposal by Wynter Daniels

Today is the release day of The Best Man’s Proposal by Wynter Daniels, and we’re here to let you try before you buy! First, here’s a bit more about the book, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end! About the book Excerpt Saying a quick prayer that he didn’t have any nosy neighbors with itchy 911-dialing fingers, she kneeled down and peered under the door. The paper was only an inch or two away. If she could stick something long and thin through the space, she could pull it out. Rifling in her purse, she found a nail file. Perfect. On the first attempt, she missed by a fraction of an inch. She held her breath, ready to give it another try. Out of nowhere, an orange furry paw landed on the note. Before she could grab the paper, a triumphant meow let her know that Grant’s cat had moved it […]

Review: With This Collar by Sierra Cartwright

Review: With This Collar by Sierra Cartwright

The Faerie Queen’s review Uh. So yeah. This one was free in a BookBub email, and I was intrigued… This is the first BDSM erotic romance I’ve ever read. (No, I haven’t read 50 Shades of Grey, for several reasons.) I was curious to try it, especially given the description (independent woman tries the lifestyle out for a night for ‘research’ purposes) and the reviews (exposes 50 Shades as terrible). So I went for it. WELL, MY DEARIES. I can tell you two things. It was educational. By contrasting Marcus and Julia’s controlling ex, it showed how BDSM does not automatically equal being abusive (though that’s not to say there aren’t abusive Doms). So much care was put into showing that everything is consensual, and explaining how BDSM can work in various ways for various people, all to their tastes. Safety, consent, and communication were repeatedly brought up. I’ve read […]

Review and Excerpt: The Baby Project by Miranda Liasson

Happy Friday, everyone! I’m bringing you a review today of an excellent romance (despite a questionable cover style…), plus an excerpt AND a giveaway! Check it all out below! The Faerie Queen’s review Busy doctor meets international journalist in this quick, sexy read from Miranda Liasson. And when I say quick, I mean finished in one sitting in a couple of hours. I couldn’t stop! You know when you’re reading a romance and you just want to scream and huff because you just want them to KISS ALREADY? That was me from about 10% in. It was painful. But that’s a sign of good chemistry, right? The sizzling undercurrent continued throughout the book, growing stronger and stronger, with enough heat to make me want to open a window on this cool, rainy, autumn day in London. If I were a doctor, I’d prescribe this book as an emergency pick-me-up. With […]

Excerpt: Tempting Mr. Wrong by Kerri Carpenter

It’s Romance Awareness Month, and we’d like to make you aware of a particular romance today. TEMPTING MR. WRONG by Kerri Carpenter is on sale for the occasion, and for those of you who like to try before you by, we’ve also got an excerpt. Here’s a bit more about the book! About the book Excerpt They walked back into the kitchen. Carly faced him. “What time is Mya coming home? Do I need to pick her up?” “Caitlin’s mom said she would drop her off.” He looked down at his watch. “In about two hours from now.” Carly put her hands in the pockets of her jeans and rolled back on her heels. “Wow, two whole hours, Mya-free. Just me and you.” She said it lightly, but as soon as the words were out of her mouth, the implication that they were alone filled the room. No Mya, no interruptions. They stood […]

Review: Rare and Beautiful Things by Giselle Fox

Review: Rare and Beautiful Things by Giselle Fox

The Faerie Queen’s review I must be the blackest of black sheep with this book, as almost all of the reviews on Goodreads are 4 or 5 stars. Everyone raves about the characters and how sweet the romance is. Me? I think this gif sums it up. Three years ago, Nikki and Amber met on a boat, felt an initial attraction, and then quickly parted ways because Amber got freaked out by another woman paying Nikki attention. Skip to present-day, and Amber’s in Belize studying jaguars when, lo and behold, Nikki shows up with her dive team. Nikki doesn’t hide that she wants to get all up in Amber’s business, and Amber is awkward and scientific about it all, not letting it happen despite acknowledging that she is experiencing arousal. This was not sexy. I get it; Amber is a virgin scientist, but that doesn’t mean she needs to be […]

Review: Heat Wave by Karina Halle

The Faerie Queen’s review Have you ever procrastinated a review for so long that when you finally come to write it, it’s eight months later and you’re like damn. Yes, it’s been a while, but I’m going to spin this in my favour. You see, this way you’ll know what the really memorable aspects were, and not just my giddy feelings right after finishing. Ok, so what do I remember the most? WELL. This book was hot as hell. Sexual tension and rough sex abound. Yes, rough and dominating and woah. Yeah, there’s a plot, but it revolves around two people who shouldn’t be together but who can’t help but need each other, at least in the physical sense. Why shouldn’t they be together? Because Logan and Ronnie have a past. Logan married Ronnie’s perfect sister, started a hotel with her in Hawaii, and then lost her in a car […]

Review: Some Kind of Magic by Mary Ann Marlowe

Review: Some Kind of Magic by Mary Ann Marlowe

The Faerie Queen’s review I knew I was going to like this one, but I didn’t realise I would like it as much as I did! What a pleasant surprise! I liked both Eden and Adam from the start. Eden was relatable in so many ways, from her interest in biology and genetics (YAY STEM) to her desire to find a guy with a stable job (but, ya know, that goes out the window fairly quickly). I loved Adam and how down-to-Earth he was (now). Their chemistry was really well-written, though I never felt consumed by it. I LOVED that Adam wasn’t Broken, which is the rock star stereotype in books. In fact, I think part of the conflict in the book came down to Eden thinking he’d be like a rock star stereotype, partying all the time and sleeping around, even when his words and behaviour showed he wasn’t. As with 90% […]
