Review & Excerpt: How (Not) to Date a Prince by Zoe May

The Faerie Queen’s review Royal Wedding month is upon us, and I’m genuinely excited because I think Meghan is awesome, and I’ve also always had a thing for Harry. So it seems appropriate to kick off the new month with a royal romance! Like the heroine, Sam, I (usually) couldn’t care less about royal weddings. (Again, I love Meghan and Harry, so I do actually care this time.) Sam’s ex-fiancé left her at the altar three years before, and she was not interested in writing about love; nope, she was a political journalist. But her editor assigns her to write a “heart-warmer” about the Norwegian prince and his regular girl bride, and in the process, we get a heart-warmer of a story, too! This was a single POV story, and a lot of the beginning was focused on Sam and her life. It took a while for Anders to actually […]

Excerpt: Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson

Reverse harem time… We’ve got an excerpt from Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson! If you enjoy the taster, this book is available on Kindle Unlimited! About the book Excerpt Oh, hell no. I’m not getting caught up in that. Nope, no dark flames burning me to ash please. Spinning around, I strode forward in the opposite direction. I could feel the stares at the back of my head, but I didn’t give two flying fucks. I went back to my cell, grabbed my dust filled blanket and huddled in the corner. Might as well ride this invasion out in the comfort of my musty, cramped cell. “Did she really just go back to her cell?” A voice questioned, with a sound of amusement. I could hear footsteps approaching as I continued my hiding attempt. I tried to make myself as small as possible as I curled in a ball, tightening the […]

Review: A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole

The GingerSnap’s review The saying goes that when one door closes, another opens. Applied to romance, it goes: when one book sucks, the next will be amazing. That has absolutely been true for me this week. This book is insanely good. Like, couldn’t-put-it-down stayed-up-way-too-late-reading-it I-want-to-read-it-again kind of good. The story begins with Naledi Smith, an overworked graduate student who suddenly starts receiving what she thinks are spam emails from the African country of Thesolo, claiming that she is, in fact, the future king’s betrothed. She writes these emails off as a nuisance, but Prince Thabiso and his assistant, Thabiso, are not joking about her destiny. When these emails go unnoticed, they both fly to New York to meet Nebi, but hijinks happen and Thabiso ends up impersonating a trust-fund kid from indiscriminate origins who quickly falls in serious love, and lust, with Nebi. But once Nebi knows the truth about her […]

Guest Post & Excerpt: Mara Gan, author of Joined, on her writing routine

Hi everyone! We have a special guest post for you from Mara Gan, author of Joined! Today, Mara will be talking about her writing routine. You can also find out more about her book and enter a giveaway at the end! Mara Gan’s writing routine I have a full-time job apart from writing, so I tend to daydream a lot of my stories for a while before I get around to writing them down. But when I write, either for my job or for my life as an author, I make myself a cup of green tea, read a little bit of news on my laptop, and turn on Netflix. I often stray toward Friends or Star Trek: The Next Generation, because I know all the episodes so well that it doesn’t distract me into paying rapt attention, but I like having a little bit of conversation noise in the background. For whatever […]

Review and Excerpt: The Duke by Katharine Ashe

Review and Excerpt: The Duke by Katharine Ashe

The Faerie Queen’s review Talk about a slow burn. This book made me wait. I’ll admit that I am not the most patient with books, and I did find this really difficult in the middle, but I’m glad I stuck it out because the last 30% was worth it. I don’t really read historical romance, but it’s a very popular subgenre of romance, so I naturally have to try a book every now and then. I find that it can be a bit OTT with the language of the time, and the last one I tried reading for review basically took a bunch of Austen characters, gave them new names, and threw them into a different historical setting. Yes, there are commonalities that are acceptable across the genre, but there should also be originality. And I think that’s why I made it through The Duke when I haven’t been able to with other […]
