An interview with Kendra
Can you introduce our two main characters in 3 words each?
Kyle: Gardener, Outfielder, Secretive
Faith: Ballerina, Sweetheart, Driven
What do you love most about Faith and Kyle (as individuals)?
I love Kyle because he’s kind of broken, but he survived. He has this soft center that he guards fiercely, but still has hope for love.
Faith…sweet Faith. She’s kind by not naïve. She’s strong but still sensitive. She wears her heart on her sleeve and wishes for big things. And she believes in love.
What do they love most about each other?
Kyle loves Faith’s spunk, her smile, her ability to care…and her legs (ballerina, right?).
Faith loves the “real Kyle,” his love for growing things, his dry humor…and his arms (baseball player, right?).
How difficult is it to write swoony scenes?
It depends on the heat level. Level one? Fun, makes me giggle, imagining the reaction. Level two? A little more difficult. Is the emotion there? Level three? It’s hard, especially in YA. Where does the curtain drop? How do I describe things so they stay sweet, but also fog up the windows? How do I make it re-readable?
Why do you write romance?
Because I love HEA. And I married my high school sweetheart (21 years strong), so I believe high school romances can work.
Do you have any favourite YA romances you can recommend to us?
Oh, Anna and the French Kiss is delicious. All Laced up by Erin Fletcher is very sweet and fun. I’ll Give You the Sun isn’t a romance per se, but the romantic scenes are visceral.
Finally, do you have a favourite line to tease us with?
“So, you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend and start a rumor that we’re having scorching sex as often as possible?”
“Okay, so you have a…a…”
“Reputation? Like maybe I steal walkers from old ladies at the supermarket and use them to break church windows?”

Baseball player Kyle Sawyer has many labels: bad boy, delinquent, ladies' man, fearless outfielder... Only one of them is actually true. But then sweet ballet dancer Faith Gladwell asks him to help wreck her reputation, and everything goes sideways.
Faith knows a thing or two about love, and what she had with her cheating jerk of an ex wasn't it. When he starts spreading rumors about her being an Ice Queen, Faith decides it's time to let a little bad into her life.
Lucky for her, Kyle Sawyer--dark, dangerous, totally swoonworthy Kyle Sawyer--is landscaping her backyard over Spring Break. Shirtless. And if she can convince him to play along, " dating" Kyle will silence the rumors.
But Faith's plan threatens to expose Sawyer's biggest secret of all...and that's a risk he's not willing to take.
