Anthology Review: Naughty Brits by Sarah MacLean and more

The Faerie Queen’s review I won’t lie… I got this anthology for Sarah MacLean’s story. I also have to be honest and say it’s been a few months since I read the book, so you’re about to get the lasting impressions review. Anthologies can be a hit or miss situation for me. I don’t think they’re (typically) as heavily edited, and some stories are naturally going to work better for me than others. This was certainly the case for Naughty Brits. As a whole, I did enjoy this collection. It did something I particularly love to find: all of the stories were connected in a way. A single event tied everything together, and small moments in one story affected the plot in another. Once I figured out the connection, I looked forward to seeing how each subsequent tale fit into the collective narrative. But let’s break things down, story by story. Sarah […]

Review, Excerpt, & Giveaway: Brazen and the Beast (The Bareknuckle Bastards #2) by Sarah MacLean

The Faerie Queen’s review I cannot be objective about this book at all. It really hit too close to home for me to not be completely swept away by it, and it consumed me. I loved the first book, and I didn’t think Sarah would let me down, but I also didn’t think it would be possible for me to love this book even more. We were introduced to Beast, AKA Whit, in Wicked and the Wallflower as Devil’s half-brother and fellow Bareknuckle Bastard running Covent Garden. He isn’t much of a talker, communicating much like a teenage boy in grunts and monosyllables. Our heroine is a new but immediately incredible character, the Lady Henrietta, or Hattie. She pushes him out of a moving carriage after kissing him in the first few pages! Hattie is, in some ways, very similar to Whit, not concerned with finery, caring about her employees, and […]

Review, Excerpt, & Giveaway: Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah MacLean

The Faerie Queen’s review Oh why oh why did it take me so long to read a book by Sarah MacLean when Emily literally introduced me to the author at a romance convention back in February?! Because that was so damn good. I am seduced. At first, I was a little bit confused, what with the prologue (which you can read below) and opening scene making me think two characters were one and the same. I constructed this whole theory based on the prologue that I quickly learned was only partly true, and not entirely as relevant as I thought. I loved Devil and his complexities, I loved the supporting characters – especially Grace, who immediately imprinted on me as a badass despite only a handful of scenes including her –, and I loved the whole world that was historical Covent Garden. (Fun fact, before reading this book, I actually went […]
