Snap Review: A Beary Sweet Holiday by Lia Davis

Snap Review: A Beary Sweet Holiday by Lia Davis

A Beary Sweet Holiday is a very quick read. If you don’t finish this in under an hour, you’re either a slow reader or not paying close attention. I liked the story and the characters, Tiffany and Holt, and I wish the book was a little longer so I can fully enjoy and get to know them. I don’t even really know what Holt looks like, but I do know that Tiffany is a “curvy” woman, which I am so down for. Oh, and they’re both shapeshifters, shifting into bears! Did you guys know I have a thing for shapeshifters? I would so want […]

Review: Apricot Kisses by Claudia Winter

Review: Apricot Kisses by Claudia Winter

Apricot Kisses is a great translated contemporary romance novel. The fated couple is comprised of Hanna and Fabrizio, two stubborn people who, by what can only be fate, are brought together against their will. (It’s actually quite funny – Hanna ‘borrows’ Fabrizio’s grandmother’s urn in an airport in Germany and has to return it to him in Italy.) Both characters drove me and each other crazy, but they were made for each other. Throw in Italian sunshine, family and food, and you get a cute comfort story to fuel your Mediterranean daydreams. This book was exactly what I needed when I needed […]

Review: Scarred by Joanne Macgregor

Review: Scarred by Joanne Macgregor

Scarred tells this story of two broken teenagers who don’t know the full story. It is a story of honesty, acceptance and –ultimately– forgiveness. I read the book in a day, eager to watch Sloane and Luke’s truth unfold. Through it all, both were genuine characters, and Sloane was funny and so gloriously sarcastic. This book is therapy and hope in 251 pages. After the epic failure that was Soundless, I was equal parts eager and wary to start a new book. I was on the precipice of falling into the River Reading Slump. Scarred rescued me. So first of […]

Review: Fire Falling by Elise Kova

Review: Fire Falling by Elise Kova

This is the second book in the Air Awakens series. If you haven’t read the first book (also Air Awakens), what the flip are you doing here? Go read my review, then BUY THE BOOK ALREADY. Ok, calm down, Dani. Ladies and gentlebugs, prepare yourself. But first, stare a bit more at the awesomeness that is the Fire Falling cover. Vhalla suits up in this epic sequel to the fantasy novel that is Air Awakens. This book is more – more everything. More magic, more badassery, more friendship, more of that oh so frustrating sexual tension. Fire Falling is absolutely […]

Series-so-far Review: Call Me Grim and Death Becomes Me by Elizabeth Holloway

Series-so-far Review: Call Me Grim and Death Becomes Me by Elizabeth Holloway

This is going to be a weird review. I’m warning you now before you get all creeped out on me. It’s also going to be a combined review, since I read both books in quick succession. If you don’t like sentimental mush, scroll right down to the reviews. Now, it’s a strange coincidence that my stop of the tour on a series about Grim Reapers happens to be the same day as a funeral. My step-grandfather’s, to be precise. He passed away on Sunday morning, exactly 96 years and 7 months after he was born. I didn’t know him that […]

Review: Lifer by Beck Nicholas (+Giveaway!)

Review: Lifer by Beck Nicholas (+Giveaway!)

Quick review Lifer is a sci-fi/dystopian young adult novel with the potential for an interesting series. While a slow start and a few too many convenient moments meant it had a rocky start, I did enjoy the book in the end. Lifer is told from Asher and Blank’s perspectives in different locations, eventually connecting into one twisted story. I liked Asher but felt Blank was a bit flat and stereotypical. Some questions were answered, but a lot more questions are still there, so I’ll be interested in reading the next book in the series! Not so quick review The story […]
